Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club History

In early 2002, the provisional Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club  was created. Over the next year and a half, meeting at Johnny Angels Restaurant, the club grew to 22 members, all the while performing community service and conducting itself as much as possible like a "real" Rotary Club. Then on June 18, 2003, the Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary Club no longer was provisional - we received our charter from Rotary International.  During the provisional period, Doug Hill served as the club president, and assumed the duties a first club president upon chartering, with Rhett Weiss taking the office on July 1, 2005.   The club was sponsored by the Skaneateles Rotary Club  with PDG Ward Vuillemot serving as District 7150 coordinator.  The club celebrated its formation at their Charter dinner held on October 2, 2003 at the Welch Allyn Lodge,  with 160 Rotarians and guests attending from 26 Rotary clubs, which included five from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

Charter Members were: Rich Berman, Ron Bond, Rev. Robert deWetter ,Ralph Edmonds, Toni Feldmann, Dan Hennigan, Doug Hill, David Labourdette, Tim Lynn. Bill Lynn, John McCarthy, Jim McQuiggan, Mike Navoroll, Joachim Ohlin, John Paddock, Sharon Potucek, Andy Ramsgard, John Rooney, Paul Sheedy, Doug Smith, Elaine Taggart & Rhett Weiss
